This custom 1978 home nestled into the front range foothills was in desperate need of a kitchen overhaul. Our goal was to bring in more natural light and create a layout that embraced the needs of a busy family. A new peninsula took the place of their existing eat-in dining area and created a social hub that features ample under counter storage. The larger island, now home to the sink, is a central work/clean up zone. The range is offset to create a secondary work area for cooking and the peninsula serves as large prep work surface. We brought in more light by removing the flat ceiling to reveal the vaulted roof line and adding two new skylights.

It’s a modern home, but our clients wanted to maintain a casual and warm aesthetic, so the slab walnut cabinetry was an immediate yes. We then layered on whites and creams with a touch of green to really embrace the mountain modern vibes.

With the new kitchen design looking so fresh, we knew the adjacent fireplace needed a refresh as well. The design approach was to simplify this area by removing the oversized stone veneer and eliminating deep window benches. A texture porcelain tile in a cool charcoal tone provides a balance to all the warm woods and cream whites while the contrast creates a grounding focal point that draws your eye to the stunning mountain views.
